Announcement: New York Post, 22 August 1865, 2.

“These concerts are very popular, and there is every reason to believe that if they were extended further into the evening, the attendance of that part of our population which cannot be present in the daytime would be large.  The evening concerts given last year were greatly appreciated by the working classes, and by many persons who visited the Park particularly on the concert nights when there was moonlight to enjoy a sail on the lake and the music together.  The fine effect of the playing from the water makes these concerts at all times delightful.”

Brief review.  “The Cornet Band gave a concert on the lake at the Park yesterday afternoon, which was listened to by a large number of persons.  The sudden change in the weather prevented a large attendance of spectators, but from the number present great applause was elicited.”
