Review: New-York Daily Tribune, 26 June 1865, 7.

“This well-known choral society gave a fresh soiree at Irving Hall a few evenings since.  The programme consisted of selections from Bach, Mendelssohn, Fesca, Franz, Beethoven, Schumann, Bishop, Wallace, Curschman [sic], Hawman, &c.  The solo singers were amateurs, and in that capacity have immunity from criticism but we would suggest that the soirees of a choral society are hardly the occasions for the display of a great proportion of very moderate amateur talent, vocal and instrumental.  Double the number of choruses would have satisfactorily replaced half a dozen very questionable solos.”
