Review: New-York Times, 04 May 1865.

“An organ concert was given on Tuesday evening at St. George’s Church, Stuyvesant-square, for the purpose of introducing Mr. W. Eugene Thayer, of Boston, to our community.  Mr. Thayer is a fine player.  He knows the instrument thoroughly, and can express his own individuality on it – which means the repose of a solid and reliable education.  His choice of ‘stops’ was good and legitimate; and his pedal playing was at times quite remarkable.  For one of the later passages Mr. Thayer received an encore.  He is an artist of decided merit, and we shall be glad to hear him again.”
