Review: New York Clipper, 23 December 1865, 294.

“Thorpe and Overin’s Minstrels—who have been giving entertainments in the church corner of Grand and Crosby streets—came to an abrupt close on the 12th  inst.  Cause—too much Herald puffing, and a consequent want of patronage.  This troupe was taken under the ‘protecting influences’ of the Herald, and their very bad performances eulogised to the highest degree of excellence by that journal.  Hence, they died, and made no sign.”
