Review: New-York Times, 08 May 1865, 8.

The review also includes a summary of the annual report of the society and a description of the sermons given.  “The thirty-first anniversary of the American Female Guardian Society and Home for the Friendless, took place yesterday evening, at the Methodist Episcopal Church, at the corner of Fourth-avenue and Twenty-second street, and was attended by a large and attentive audience.

Rev. Cyrus Foes, Pastor of the church, presided.  After music by the choir and an introductory prayer by Rev. Thos. S. Hastings, a new hymn, composed by Miss Fanny Crosby for the occasion, was sung by the children under the care of the society, commencing: ‘O, no, we are not friendless now.  For God hath reared a home.’  Both galleries of the church were filled by these interesting little children, and their singing produced a beautiful effect.”
