“The skies were lowering on Saturday, and neither the music nor the attendance at the open-air concert, on the afternoon of that day, were quite as satisfactory as could have been desired. Most persons who went to the Park took with them their umbrellas, and perhaps the musicians were careless in their performance, knowing that the audience was prepared to hoise parasols and decamp at a moment’s notice. The Scherzo from Mendelssohn’s ever delightful Scotch symphony, was given however, in a very creditable manner, and was the feature of the entertainment, although a stirring march by Kochkeller drew out considerable applause.  Those of an appreciative turn, who attend these concerts, observe that the marches bearing the foregoing name are uniformly good, and it is due to the composer to inform the public that he is a young German musician of this city, a member of the Central Park band, and a skillful performer as well as a talented composer.”
