"Donizetti's opera of ‘La Favorita’ will be repeated here to-night for the second and last time.  The new prima donna, Senorita Carmelina Poch, is the Leonore.  We had occasion on the first performance of the opera to speak in highest terms of the lady’s capacities.  It is seldom that we have heard a voice of such purity and power.  Senorita Poch’s skill as a vocalist can hardly be estimated in this opera, but her dramatic intensity will, we think, be recognized by every one.  Mr. Maretzek could not have made a better addition to his company.”

“The performance . . . confirmed all the best opinions that were formed of Mlle. Poch on the occasion of her début. The lady possesses a voice of remarkable grandeur, and she commands it with more than ordinary skill. In freshness and quality, it has rarely been equaled, and in delivering it, she displays a dramatic intensity which no one of recent days has surpassed.”

“The opera of La Favorita was performed last evening to a moderately filled house. Señorita Carmelina Poch confirmed the good impression she made on her first appearance. She is a most excellent artist, both as a vocalist, and as an actress. She is perfectly at home on the stage, and will prove a valuable addition to Mr. Maretzek’s company.”
