“Last night with Ellie to a little musical party at Mrs. Prof. Joy’s in 49th St. B on the Columbia College premises. . . There was a Mrs. Benedict, daughter of Prof. Jackson (?) of Union Coll., who sang English ballads and Heine’s ‘Two grenadiers’ with wonderful spirit and perfect simplicity.  She seems a young woman of genius.  Also a young FrenchmanCtenorCsang well.  E. accompanied him in Beethoven’s Adelaida and sang a French Romance or two afterwards.”
