“The great event of the skating season here will be the ‘carnival’ to-morrow afternoon and evening at Major Oatman’s Fifth Avenue pond. There are to be two bands of music, which will play alternately. In the evening there is to be an illumination with Chinese lanterns, colored lights, and other fireworks. Many of the skaters will appear in fancy dress. The accommodations are sufficient for thousands of persons, who are expected to attend.”
