       M. Grau is decidedly becoming the providence of the New York public in the matter of opera.  He presents himself in the gap when all others have abandoned it.

Thanks to him, this year—the same as last year—we are going to have a musical season at the moment where all hope on this subject seemed lost.

The performances will begin next Monday with La Traviata for the debuts of the new prima donna, Mme Ginevra Guerrabella, who arrives with a good strong reputation acquired in Italy and England.

Three other debuts follow: that of Mme Lorini in Lucrezia; Mlle. Morandi (contralto) in La Traviata; and Mlle. Cordier in the Pardon de Ploermel.

The latter opera will be, for America, a complete novelty, and M. Grau claims that no expense will be spared for the scenery.

A question remains—nothing has been decided in this regard—whether to perform the Vêpres Siciliennes with Mlle Kellogg and another opera, in which Mlle. Carlotta Patti will perform in a new role.

The male personnel of the company formed by M. Grau comprises the following: Tenors: Brignoli, Maccatieri; Baritone: Amodio; Bass: Susini, Barili.

The orchestra, which was recruited with special care, will be directed by M. Muzio.

The numerous and serious chorus is formed by the best ensembles that we have had.

The season announced by M. Grau is only to be for ten nights, but there is hope of a legitimate success which would extend the length of the season.
