“Mr. Theodore Thomas’ experiment of nightly concerts at Terrace Garden has met with more than the expected success. The location is of convenient access, being on the lines of the Third Avenue and Belt Railroads. During the past week the Garden has been crowded to its greatest capacity, and by audiences of the first respectability. There was a need of some such entertainment, and Mr. Thomas has acted wisely in supplying it in the best possible way. His orchestra contains some of the best instrumentalists in the City, and playing as it does so constantly together, it has attained a rare degree of precision. The programmes are varied with good taste, and are different each evening.  Mr. Theodore Thomas possesses an extensive repertoire, and is daily making fresh additions to it. Occasionally he favors his listeners with a violin solo, but solos as a rule are not desirable.”
