Review: New York Post, 22 October 1862, 4.

“The weather on Saturday was charming, and the turn-out of carriages, equestrians and pedestrians was remarkably fine. No less than twenty-one thousand and twenty-six pedestrians, five hundred and thirty-one equestrians, and four thousand three hundred and seventy-eight carriages entered the Park on that day, making a total of nearly forty thousand visitors in one day. The new Music Pavilion, a structure of great beauty, is approaching completion. The music, the gondola and other boats, the lake and the gay throng of visitors combine to make the Park, during these delightful October afternoons, a scene of beauty which is scarcely surpassed.”
