"Mr. Theodore Thomas will give a matinee at Koch's Terrace Garden, on Third avenue, at four o'clock [sic; all advertisements list a 4:30 start time] and an evening performance at eight. His orchestra garden concerts have become quite popular, and furnish excellent music to the large audiences which nightly crowd them."
"The extreme heat of the last few days has had the effect to drive many of the usual attendants of the theatres to seek for comfort and amusement in the various gardens up-town, all of which have been very extensively patronized the past week. Of them

has justly become a favorite. It is easily accessible, has abundant accommodations for all who visit it, and is most excellently managed throughout. Even during the hottest evenings one finds there a comparatively cool and refreshing atmosphere, and can get invigorated for the next day's duties far better than at the watering places.
