Well attended by an elegant, mostly German audience. Ristori’s performance received much applause; hardly any flower bouquets were thrown on stage, however (a German custom). It was obvious, though, that Ristori impressed the audience, despite not understanding her language.

Review: New-Yorker Staats-Zeitung und Herold, 27 September 1866, 8.

Despite rainy weather, the performance was well attended. The audience seemed rather indifferent at the beginning of the performance, yet grew very enthusiastic, especially at the end of the third act and in the fifth act. The other actors seemed almost invisible next to the majestic Ristori; they were barely noticed by the audience.

Mrs. Antoniette Cottin is an accomplished actress; Mr. Cesare Ristori also pleased; however, we are not able to say anything of praise about the remaining actors.  The costumes except for the two queens were rather shabby.
