“The valiant 54th Regiment N.Y. V. hosted a magnificent ball on Thursday evening at the Union Assembly Rooms on Grand Street. The unfriendly, raw weather did not deter the worthy soldiers, who are used to such conditions, from attending the event in great numbers. In fact, at close to 10 o’clock, the very spacious venue was completely full. The cheerful and peaceable ball lasted until the next morning.”
