“The new Academy of Music is to be finished by February, when it will be reopened to the public, unless Recorder Hackett has some fresh revelations in regard to the public safety. His Honor could scarcely have made a worse blunder than he did in directing attention to the Academy as open to suspicion in this respect. There is probably not a building in New York, new or old, with more substantial walls or a better foundation. Probably the Recorder meant to do somebody a service by his caution – possibly it was the Academy itself.”

[Comment: The Academy of Music needed to be rebuilt after the fire of 1866.]
