“The performance at the hall of this troupe last evening were as lively and as well received by a large audience as they usually are. Mr. Leon was suffering from recent indisposition, but acquitted himself very creditably. Sam Price, a fine and truthful delineator of the mischievous and irascible negro, with Nelse Seymour, Johnny Allen and the ever welcome George Christy, were peculiarly happy in their various comicalities.”
“TAKEN ALTOGETHER, that was rather a dark performance given by Kelly & Leon’s Minstrels on the evening of the 21st. In consequence of the gas freezing, the front of the house was in darkness until nearly eight o’clock, when candles were obtained, but afforded very little light. The gas in the auditorium was burning, but not enough to light the house, so a number of kerosene oil lamps had to be brought into requisition. But the performances on the stage were still darker, for everything was done in black.”
