“Last evening this house was thronged as usual with a highly appreciative audience, who, despite their efforts to the contrary, were kept in a continual roar of laughter by the whimsicalities of Birch, Backus, Wambold, and Bernard. The Black Cook and Spectral Shades failed not to elicit from those present the heartiest round of applause, and the most staid could not refrain from indulging at times in the most uproarious manifestations of delight at the performance. The songs and choruses were rendered in a very creditable manner, and the ludicrous farce of the Animated Photographs received the recognition it so justly merited.”

"You are kept in trouble all the evening by the laughable acts of Birch, Backus and Bernard and you also have trouble to hear the exquisite singing of Wambold in consequence of the audience being convulsed with laughter over the previous funny acts. Trouble or no trouble, this is one of the best places in the city to enjoy yourself."
