“A sacred concert was given last evening at the German Presbyterian church, at the corner of Madison and Montgomery streets. . . . The vocal performances were acceptable, including some singing by the choir, but the piano playing and the accompaniments were unworthy [of] the attention of the audience of a fourth rate concert saloon. The assemblage, which was quite large, was, however, indulgent, and overlooked many shortcomings which a more critical gathering would not easily have forgotten.”

Just a listing of the pieces performed.

The concert was exceptionally well attended. Most of the choral performances impressed with high accuracy. Stein’s performance was splendid. He excelled not just with his beautiful voice but also with his artistically beautiful presentation. Mrs. Abbott and Lockwood pleased as well. The piano performance was less satisfactory.
