“Miss Henriques distinguished herself by singing with good taste a pleasant ballad by Mr. Mollenhauer, accompanying herself on the pianoforte. . . . One word more: an excellent military band is provided on the stage. One of the strongest effects of the piece is in the second act. The scene represents an interior with windows looking upon the street. The regiment called ‘Ours’ is forming in the neighborhood. The principal characters have said farewell; the Colonel’s voice is heard without forming the regiment; the word ‘March!’ is given, and the band and the regiment march past in the moonlight.  The spectacle is contrived so cleverly that neither too much nor too little is seen or done.  It touches flesh and blood, and brings down the house. The curtain has to be drawn up three and four times each evening after this perfectly legitimate and striking effect. . . .”
