“At this beautiful theatre the Bird of Paradise flies high, and attracts general attention to its brilliant plumage. The piece will be played but a few evenings longer, and then the theatre will be surrendered to other game of a less airy character.”
“We should remark, as explaining the title of the piece, that its heroine is gifted with the power of assuming at will the aspect of a bird of Paradise. Her experiences on the course of true love are illustrated by much dancing of sylphs, much singing of songs, and a good deal of gay scenery.”
“The Bird of Paradise was produced at the New York theatre for the last time yesterday afternoon and evening. The matinee was pretty well attended, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, and the performance passed off in the usual successful manner. Miss Hinckley was especially good in her rôle, and the orchestra, too, deserves praise for the careful manner in which the music was rendered,”
