“The Liederkranz Society held their twentieth anniversary at their hall last evening.  The members mustered in full force, and mirth, jollity and enjoyment were the programme of the night. The hymn to music and other vocal pieces were splendidly sung by the society under their efficient leader, Agricola Paur. Haydn’s imperial string quartet, was played by Messrs. Christ, Brandeis, Stern and Wallot, and the execution of the Austrian National Anthem reflected the highest credit on those gentlemen. Mr. William Steinway, the esteemed President of the society, and other gentlemen made appropriate speeches, and Messrs. Closson, Fred. Steins and others did a little dramatic for the amusement of the members. The hall was beautifully decorated in the Klein style, and the night passed over to merriment and good feeling. Messrs. Koch (secretary), Hersiet, Nembach, A. Weber, Gelifuss, Trost and all the other members of the society exerted themselves to the utmost to make every one present satisfied with the twentieth anniversary of the New York Liederkranz Society.”

Detailed description of the venue decorations. The event was well attended despite the pouring rain. The gentlemen Schwartz and Mrs. Steins acted and sang “Das Räuberduett” from Stradella effectively; the amateur orchestra performed the two movements of the Haydn “Kaiser Quartett” noticeably well.
