“Second week of the Descriptive Scene, OCEAN YACHT RACE.”

“The original spectacle of the Black Crook pales its unholy fire when contrasted with the new version presented by Griffin and Christy at this favorite establishment. Made up of spicy dialogue, containing exceedingly apt local hits, absurd contrasts and the wonderful salutatory performances of the ‘Bighub Ballet Troupe,’ its effect upon the select audience who filled the house last night was to provoke them to continuous merriment from its opening act to the closing remarkable scene of ‘The Palace of Dew Drops,’ with real water. The Ocean Yacht Race still keeps the boards, and the rest of the bill is excellent.”

“Business was very good last week at this establishment, and the company, which is a very good one, give a most excellent evening’s amusement.”

“’The Black Crook’ in black has made a decided hit at the Fifth Avenue Opera House. The appearance of the company as ‘The Big Limb Ballet’ is as ludicrous as one could possibly imagine. The last scene—the Palace of Dew Drops—is a huge affair, and brings forth peals of laughter and sends the audience home in good humor.”
