Review: New York Herald, 28 February 1867, 7.

“It is a pity that M. Hartz cannot apply his magical power to Dodworth Hall so as to increase its size, for the accommodation of the numbers who nightly flock to see his marvelous performances. Last evening was no exception to the general rule of crowded houses, the audience, as usual, continually testifying their appreciation of the illusions which they beheld. Novelty is the order of the day with M. Hartz, and fresh tricks continually enhance the interest of his bills. This week the attractions are the basket trick, the floating head, Proteus and a variety of prestidigitatorial illusions of the usual clever description. It is, however, unnecessary to enumerate, as the quality of M. Hartz’s entertainment is too thoroughly acknowledged to need any recommendation from us.”
