“The Academy of Music is fairly under way once more.  We wish that all attempts at ‘reconstruction’ might be as successful as this has been.  Perhaps our friends at Washington might take a few lessons with advantage.  At all events, the Academy has been renewed, and, we think, with some very positive improvements.  The clearing away of the pillars by which the galleries were supported is not only a great improvement to the general appearance, but it leaves an unobstructed view from all parts of the house to all parts of the stage—a delightful contrast with the neck-stretching process that was necessary in a large number of seats in the old building, to say nothing of the many seats from which a view of the stage, was impossible.  The acoustic effects are also highly satisfactory, far exceeding those of the old room.”
