No theater has yet been found to give a benefit for Mrs. Methua-Scheller to assist in compensating her for the loss of her wardrobe in the Winter-Garden fire. Mr. Booth is wondering why the theater that had engaged her for two years has not yet offered her a benefit performance. We, however, wonder why Booth is not assisting the actors by donating money of his own means, which are not small, to make up for the lost wardrobes. It is estimated that the fire cost him between $40,000 and $60,000; what harm can $5000 do? Booth has announced plans to build a new theater soon. The co-owner of the Winter Garden, Stuart, and the fire Marshall Baser believe the fire was deliberately lit. Bandmann has offered to join a benefit for Methua-Scheller.
