“The third performance of Petrella’s new opera, ‘The Carnival of Venice,’ will be given this evening at the New Academy.  It is certainly one of the merriest of modern compositions, and has within its three lively acts all the elements to win popularity, for they possess matters to please the taste, tickle the ear and delight the eye.”

Although Maretzek had announced this to be the last performance of the Carnival, it is unlikely to happen. The opera has been too successful to discontinue.
