“The festival of the Trinity choirs—under the auspices of the rector, clergy and corporation of Trinity Parish—bids fair to realize the most ardent expectations of those who are engaged in preparing for it. On Tuesday night the second grand choral rehearsal, in anticipation of the performance of the ‘Messiah’ on the 25th, was held. Upwards of three hundred singers—including ladies, gentlemen and boys—were present. When we add that an orchestra of sixty performers is to assist in the production of the great oratorio, we may confidently predict a musical performance of unusual interest.

We were pleased with the evident earnestness of the singers at the rehearsal we speak of. Many of them showed the effect of previous thorough training in the choral festivals held in the English cathedrals—a training which Dr. James Pech is well qualified to impart to all, and which the rector of Trinity especially desires to become more general.”
