Michael Haag, in Templars: History and Myth . ., says that Balfe’s The Knight of the Leopard (1864-1870), incomplete at his death [NGO]), also known as Il talismano, is based on the Templar story by W. Scott. Could it be that part of the score was circulating before its publication (1874)?
