Review: New York Clipper, 23 March 1867.

“The ‘Streets of New York’ was withdrawn from the boards of the Olympic on the 16th inst. The first two weeks it attracted large audiences, but the third week business fell off and last week the attendance was very light. Mr. Mortimer played Badger until Wednesday evening of last week, when his continual drunkenness caused his dismissal from the theatre and his role was played by Mr. Sheridan, who had previously appeared as Captain Fairweather. During the four weeks of the play we do not believe that Mr. Mortimer appeared on the stage one night without being intoxicated, and on some occasions so badly that he could not speak the tag.”
