“MANAGER LINGARD gave his patrons, last week, an amusing as well as entertaining programme.  The sketch called ‘Jap-on-knees’ was as laughable as anything we have witnessed for a long time. Johnny Allen appeared as ‘All Right,’ and he kicked up all kinds of antics, keeping the audience roaring with laughter. Monteverde, the contortionist, did an act, and the ladder feat was capitally burlesqued. Taken altogether, it was a well gotten up and a laughable burlesque on the different acts of the real Japs at the Academy. The sending of a dummy man from the top of the proscenium on a wire to the dress circle caused roars of laughter. The Touraine Brothers, gymnasts, put in an appearance last week. They are two very clever performers and do a pleasing act. Mlle. De Vere continues to please in her executions upon the light fantastic toe, and Johnny Allen’s act of ‘Nicodemus Johnson’ proves quite a card. He is called out three and four times every evening. The ballet of the ‘French Milliners’ concluded the evening’s entertainment each evening last week, with A. M. Hernandez as the Footman, and Lizzie Whelpey as Julia.”
