“Amusements. Steinway Hall. The 30th of Mr. Harrison’s Sunday Concerts, a noble one—‘of lineage old’ as the historical fathers in the novels used to be—took place last evening. The programme if it contained nothing very new, at least among its twelve numbers had everything that could interest and satisfy the unexorbitant mind. Some of Miss Maria Gilbert’s florid piano playing, particularly her sympathetic treatment of the Romanza and Rondo from Chopin’s ‘E Minor concerto,’ and three organ Solos by Mr. G. W. Morgan, were irresistible accompaniments for the usually superbly given overtures by Mr. Thomas’ orchestra; while the debut of Miss Rosalie Stuart added the seasoning of freshness which might have made everything admirable had that lady possessed anything more than an inflexible voice of the slightest possible education and the least possible strength. It was heard to the best advantage in a duo from ‘Nabucco,’ with Signor Strini, but in the arias from Verdi and Haydn exposed its poverty.”
