Bateman’s endeavors are the most anticipated for the forthcoming season. The impresario is known to bring quality ensembles for concerts to New York. When he left for London and Paris this summer, he planned to hire the usual concert ensemble; however, he changed his mind when he saw Offenbach’s operettas in Paris, and he came back with a French operetta ensemble and purchased scores. He also consulted Offenbach for advice regarding musical arrangements and casting of the parts. Offenbach recommended specific singers who have a good reputation in France. The singers he brought with him are the ladies Mlle. Tostee, D. Felcourt, Monier, Isabella, Marguerite, Mathilde and 16 female choristers. Gentlemen are Cuffrey, Duchesne, Balter, Lagrisson, Monier, Benedel, Leane, and 16 male choristers. Chorus conductor is Mr. Lefebvre; stage director Mr. Lagrissond.

Bateman also made detailed copies of the Paris costumes. He spent more than $30,000. We have no doubt, his expenses will pay off.

Not only the French Theater but also the German Stadttheater will have Offenbach operettas in their repertoire. L’ Arronge and his wife will perform mostly in Offenbach and Suppe operettas. (…)
