“‘Robert le Diable’ will be repeated here for the last time to-night. The general caste of the opera is unusually good, and such defects as we noticed on the first representation will undoubtedly be corrected on the second. Mr. Strakosh [sic] in the limited season before him has done a bold and judicious thing in bringing out this masterwork. Except with experienced artists it would have been impossible. Although there was a lack of ensemble on Wednesday evening the concerted pieces—devolving on the four principle artists—were admirably given. The trio created a perfect furore, and the singers were twice called before the curtain. The orchestra has been materially increased, and now number sforty [sic] performers. The chorus has also been increased. The result will undoubtedly be seen this evening. It should be remembered that it is alos the last one of the season, the matinée to-morrow terminating the perfroamnces until the 17th of March. During the interval Mr. Strakosch visits Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington.”

“The second representation of ‘Robert le Diable,’ last evening, attracted a full and brilliant audience. The performance was excellent, and the defects to which we referred on Wednesday had entirely disappeared. All the artists were in voice and sang with the certainty which belongs to practice. The principal pieces were encored, and the artists were repeatedly called before the curtain.”
