“So much has been said, and written of the piece which occupies the boards at Niblo’s, that any further commentary on the novelty and success of this exhibition would be only a varied tissue of phraseology on the merits of some of the ballet corps and the dazzling splendor of the transformation scene. There are many, nevertheless, who cannot see in it an improved edition of the ‘Black Crook,’ unmeaning as the plot of that piece was, if, indeed, the meagre connection of incidents, interesting to no one, could be called a plot. The rivalry, it is plain, extends no further than the transformation scene, which, if anything, surpasses the greatest previous effort. In this case there is nothing in a name. The ‘Bright Realms of the Dragon Fly’ is a title which, like the ‘Palace of Dew,’ may be called an ‘airy nothing’ till the genius of the artist gives to this ‘a local habitations.’ The applause bestowed last evening on the leading members of the ballet troupe is conclusive evidence that those faces, however familiar by length of acquaintance, have a power of attraction which in an artist is synonymous with success. Niblo’s is likely to be crowded for many a day to come.”
