Review: New York Herald, 08 September 1868.

“Wood’s Museum and Metropolitan Theatre, although just one week old, may, without hesitation, be pronounced a grand success. It is just such an institution as New York has long needed, and under the experienced management of Mr. George Wood it cannot fail to become a popular, attractive, and instructive place of recreation and amusement for all classes of our citizens and strangers sojourning in the metropolis. The performances are well patronized, and the elevation of tone and character which prevails throughout the entire establishment is in direct contradistinction to anything of a like nature that we have ever had in this city. Miss Maggie Mitchell as Lorle in the evening and the English opera bouffe company in the afternoon are the principal attractions.”

Praise for Mitchell for this and previous performances. No mention of music. “‘Lorle’ is drawing well, and Mr. Wood finds profit in it.”
