A Row in the French Camp.—Manager Bateman having terminated his season with the French Opera troupe, Friday, June 26th, was fixed as the final salary day and the Academy of Music the place where the Grand Duchess, Fritz, Gen. Boum and confreres were to appear, clad in the habiliments of ‘ordinary’ persons to receive their money. During the settlement Miss Faustine Berthiat was docked fifty cents, having been fined that much for breaking some rule, when she opened upon Bateman in such a way as to make him quail. Notwithstanding her expressions of thief, swindler and robber were uttered in French, they were given with a force sufficient to make Bateman call in the assistance of two police offers, who arrested her. This act aroused the ire of three male friends, who made an assault upon the officers, and things became lively all around, a great crowd collecting about the scene to see the fine sport. The three individuals were arrested and taken to the station house, where Bateman preferred a charge of disorderly conduct against Miss Berthiat, and the officer preferred a similar charge against the male champions, who were fined $10 each.”
