The mixed chorus of the N.Y. Singakademie gave a big concert on Sunday, the 13th (venue not identified). The highlight in the program was the full work of Haydn’s oratorio “Die Schöpfung.”

The first part of the concert was conducted by Anschütz and executed very well. Especially Mrs. Ritter with an aria from Don Juan and Mr. Beck in a trombone solo stood out. A not small number of New York’s celebrities from the music scene were in the audience, which gave the event a distinguished flair. Everybody waited with excitement for the second part and the highlight of the concert. There were rumors, the chorus over-estimated its skill and would not be fit to perform this big work adequately. The beginning of the performance seemed to confirm the rumor, when, despite the strong leadership of the conductor E.Weber’s baton, the clarinets and bassoons played less than in harmony. When the chorus entered, it first entered very cautiously; however, once the voices moved into crescendo all discord had vanished, and the chorus and orchestra triumphed with confidence, accuracy, and strength. The soloists were partly members of the chorus. In the first and second part of the work, the female singers Frerichs and Adler and the male singers Dehnhoff and Staudt, and in the third part Miss Fischer and Mr. Soyst performed with excellence. Especially Miss Frerichs stood out. She quickly sang herself into the audience’s heart with her confident and energetic style, and was rewarded with repeated applause. The young lady possesses all the attributes that are needed to become an excellent singer [rest illegible].
