Announcement: New York Post, 02 October 1868, 2.

Part of Music in Gotham’s copy is cut off. “…Next week the theatre is to be thoroughly cleaned, renovated, recaprted and newly upholstered. Mr. Hayes is busy on an elaborate new ‘transformation scene,’ which is to supersede [sic] the one now in use. Thus on the 19th ‘Humpty Dumpty’ will appear with all the freshness of youth and enter on a new career of prosperity.”

“‘Humpty Dumpty,’ reinforced by a grand ballet and otherwise strengthened, is preparing to ‘swing round the cicle’ of the year. As his friends are legion, he is of course nightly cheered on his mischievous but happy course by deafening plaudits, and needs but a little more paint on his face to insure him a successful accomplishment of his purpose.”

No mention of music.

Review: New York Herald, 26 October 1868, 7.

“‘Humpty Dumpty,’ encouraged by immense audiences, smiles and jokes and cuts up his queer pranks in his own peculiar and mischievous way without any seeming weakness, which one is naturally led to expect from his venerable age. The pantomime is in a healty condition after its recent reconstruction and is good for months to come.”

Review: New York Clipper, 31 October 1868, 231.

“‘Humpty’ met with a slight fall the past week, but no bones were broken, as he recovered from the accident after three nights careful nursing, when he reappeared as lively as ever. The three disagreeable evenings we had the past week told heavily upon the different treasurers’ returns, but the management of the Olympic cannot but be satisfied with the business since done, should it continue.”
