“Broadway and the Bowery” is the title of Pastor’s latest production. “No doubt the contrast will be exquisitely drawn, as the ups and downs of life in both locations are to be presented.”

Review: New York Herald, 29 December 1868, 3.

“The Italian Opera has failed, at least for the present. Even the French opéra bouffe, with all its actual charms and popularity, may, in the course of time, be superseded by opéra comique, which in its turn, may become a dissolving view. But amidst all changes, past, present and prospective, Tony Pastor’s Opera House stands, and bids fair long to stand, firm as on a rock upon its solid basis of comic vocalism, negro minstrelsy and such a conglomerate of song and merriment as is presented not only by its jubilee bill for the holidays, but by its nightly bills during all the rest of the year. To say that it was thronged last night is but to repeat a phrase which might safely be stereotyped for every notice of this eminently popular resort. The feature of the jubilee bill is, ‘Broadway and the Bowery,’ a new original drama, humorously depicting life in New York.”
