“The business during the past week at this popular place of amusement has been very good, the total receipts amounting to $10,363. The new burlesque of ‘The Horse Marines’ is a success, and a fair specimen of the style of the times, being a heterogeneous mass of blondes, walk-rounds, cancan, Offenbach, &c. Miss Alice Harrison, in the rôle of Captain Jinks, exhibits a large amount of burlesque talent and sings several popular airs with plenty of aplomb. Mr. Ben Maginly, as Mrs. Jinks, has improved since the first performance and makes up well. The scene in which Capt. Jinks appears on a velocipede is immensely popular. Maffit’s comic military pantomime of ‘The Young Recruit’ is remarkably funny, and will be continued during the week. The Carlo Brothers are the best contortionists we ever saw. Nickle, the wizard, appears tonight for the first time, and, from all accounts he will prove an attraction. The charming Bonfanti, the graceful dancer, and one of the greatest favorites who has appeared for years in New York, is still the queen of the Tammany ballet. The reduction in the prices is evidently very popular, judging from the difficulty to get reserved seats. For further information as to the performances at the Tammany, we beg to refer the reader to their advertisement in the amusement column.”
