“If the concerts of the Philharmonic Society are as well attended as the rehearsals the directors will have every reason to be satisfied with the amount of patronage bestowed upon them. The Academy of Music was crowded yesterday afternoon and the second rehearsal passed off in a most satisfactory manner. Carl Bergmann conducted the grand orchestra and seemed well pleased with the manner in which the performers acquitted themselves. The program comprised Beethoven’s symphony No. 3, ‘Eroica,’ &c; the Symphonie fantasque (two parts), by Berlioz, and the overture to Gade’s ‘Hamlet.’”
