“The Bryants did a good business the past week at their hall of minstrelsy, the house being crowded on the 9th inst., also several other evenings. Governor John T. Hoffman, occupied a private box on the 8th inst., and, judging by the way he enjoyed the performance, we presume he must have found it a great relief, having escaped from the political lectures of his Albany friends. The first part of the minstrel entertainment was first-class: Dwyer, who has made quite an impression by his singing, gave a new ballad called ‘Driven from Home,’ the words of which are beautifully touching, while the melody is very pleasing. Unsworth sang a new song about ‘Swate Castle Carden,’ the words of which are funny, and it was deservedly encored. Unsworth was as funny as ever in his stump speech, while Dan Bryant did ‘Captain Jinks.’ Taken on the whole, the minstrel entertainment at present given by this company is first class.
