Review: New York Post, 15 June 1869.

"The last Madrigal concert for this season took place at Steinway Hall last evening. A large audience was present, but there was not so full a chorus as at previous concerts, some of the singers having gone to the Boston Jubilee."

“The male quartets were rendered with indecision and want of confidence, and the female were not much better, but in concerted pieces there was more precision. The fortes and pianos were well executed.

“The quartet ‘Dorothy’ and ‘Celias Arbor’ were well rendered, and justly received encores. The Quartet ‘Tyrolese Volkslied,’ was a failure. Miss Brainerd sang very acceptably the solo, ‘Come live with me,’ by Hatton, and Miss Hutchings gave with much expression ‘The Spinning Wheel.’”

Review: New York Musical Gazette, July 1869, 69.

“Since our last issue, another glee and madrigal concert has been given, and such was the favor with which it was received, that others will undoubtedly follow next season, and afford an opportunity for those who wish to indulge their taste for old-time popular songs.”
