“The eighth public rehearsal of the present season by this well known organization of artists came off yesterday afternoon at the Academy of Music. There was in attendance a brilliant and critical audience, which completely filled the establishment, and from which the successful and admirable rendering of the different passages and movements received rapturous applause. The themes rehearsed were Mendelssohn’s symphony, ‘The Reformation,’ in four movements, two movements of Schubert’s unfinished symphony and the overture to ‘Leonore.’ So proficient were the century of artists in their various parts that not more than two or three times during the entire rehearsal did the practiced ear of the leader, Carl Bergmann, detect errors which necsssitated corrections. The entire performance was most successfully carried out, and the coming concert may, therefore, safely be expected to be one of more than ordinary merit.”

”The second rehearsal for the third Philharmonic concert of the season took place yesterday afternoon. The audience was, as usual, a very large one. A programme of peculiar interest, comprising . . . was presented on the occasion, and performed with the accuracy and spirit which we are accustomed to expect from Mr. Bergmann’s orchestra. The concert will take place next week, Ole Bull appearing as the solo performer.”
