“The extravaganza of ‘William Tell’ was produced on Jan. 24, and attracted crowded audiences during the week. Olivia Rand looks well as William Tell, and plays the part with considerable spirit. She has several songs which took well and each one received an encore. Rosa Rand in her closely fitting breeches makes a taking Albert, while Mr. Morton as the Mother Emma was as satisfactory as could be wished. Miss Bernard played the part of Rosetta very well and received a goodly share of applause for her songs and dances. Therese Wood made a lively Erni. Mr. Ward was about as miserable a Gesler as could be desired, and was sadly out in his singing, he so mumbling his words—probably from not knowing them—that scarcely a word he said could be heard. The burlesque is a good one, being replete with comical sayings and laughable situations. Mr. J. Collins, who we have heard sing right cleverly, made a failure in the whistling song. He was evidently suffering with a cold.”
