“’Shoo Fly’ has indeed become popular, for it is not only introduced with every new burlesque, but is sung in every variety place of amusement in the city and there is scarcely an orchestra in any of our theatres that does not indulge in it at some period of the evening. It first became popular here by its being sung by Dan Bryant and Dave Reed, although Delehanty and Hengler did it first as a song and dance. With the Bryants’ it has become the greatest hit of any act done there for a long time and is equally as popular as was Dan Bryant’s ‘Essence’ years ago. Dan and Dave have done it up to the present time more than one hundred nights, and as it still keeps the head of the bill and is received nightly with thunders of applause, it bids fair to surpass all previous acts for its run. Little Mac is as funny as ever with his monkey act.”

“Little Mac has proven a great card with the Bryant’s Minstrels, for he is encored several times every evening in his act of the ‘Essence,’ and his monkey act keeps the audience screaming with laughter all the time he is on the stage. The act of ‘The Shoo Fly’ is given this evening for the one hundred and twenty-sixth time. Business continues very good with this troupe, their hall being filled every evening.”
