Review: New-York Times, 20 February 1870, 5.

“In the evening, the charitable concert, alluded to already in the Times, attracted to Steinway Hall an overflowing audience. The rich voice of Mrs. Davison, who sang the Shadow song from ‘Dinorah,’ with a correctness and finish indicative of culture of the most diligent kind, was heard in the first part of the reunion, and in the second part, the singing of Miss Sterling was listened to. Miss Sterling’s execution of the aria from ‘La Donna del Lago’ was somewhat sluggish in passages, but she was recalled nevertheless, and her execution of ‘Three Fishers Went Sailing’ was so good in respect of expression as well as purely mechanical excellence, as to richly entitle the artist to the stormy demand for a repeat which followed. The instrumentalists were Mr. Werner and Miss Mehlig, who were both heard in pieces familiar to the habitual concert-goer.”
