“The benefit of Mlle. Briot at the French Theater, on Friday evening, was attended by a large and fashionable audience, and ‘La Perichole’—always a favorite opera in New York—was creditably presented. The beneficiare, though evidently suffering from hoarseness, which marred her singing, looked and acted her part exceedingly well. M. Girrebuck was a satisfactory Piquillo, and our old friend, M. Duchesne, who was enthusiastically received, made the most of a small part. The choruses and orchestra were good, and their performance did credit to the director, M. Van Ghel, as well as to themselves.”
