“‘Ching Chow Hi,’ the new operatic burlesque of Kelly & Leon’s Minstrels, is one of the most original and amusing burlesques ever put upon the stage. It smacks of Offenbach, and is really a burlesque on a burlesque. The music is excellent, and the acting unsurpassed in negro minstrelsy. There is nothing in the opera that can offend the most delicate taste. It should draw crowded houses all summer. Mr. Kelly has secured a new boy to sing ‘Put Me in My Little Bed.’ He is said to be a vast improvement upon the original, who mysteriously disappeared with two weeks’ salary in his pocket a month ago. In addition to Purdy, Kelly, Leon, Sam Price, and others, a boy cloggist has been engaged, who surpasses even Bobby Newcomb in his young days.”
